What you will do

Reporting to the Guest Experience Coordinator, the successful candidates will, among other things, be responsible for developing and implementing a fun, safe experience in NB Parks for first time campers. The Learn to Camp Ambassadors will be responsible for guiding guests through the challenges of first time camping by providing experiential learning opportunities for participants. Additional duties include:

Developing educational content such as engaging workshops, activities, website, and social media content
Delivering educational programs and public outreach initiatives
Working with diverse audiences, in English and French. This includes people who are learning English or French as well as youth and young families
Leading and participating in outdoor activities

Work Environment

Working within all Provincial Parks: Fundy Trail, Herring Cove, Hopewell Rocks, Mactaquac, Mount Carleton, Murray Beach, North Lake, New River Beach, Parlee Beach, République and Sugarloaf
Your Team: The team consists of the Learn to Camp Ambassadors and the Guest Experience Coordinator
Working on weekends/evenings
Travel throughout the province

Who you are

You are someone who enjoys the outdoors: rain or shine it's a great time to be outside. You possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, are self-motivated and can think on your feet. You are a people person. You have a respect for safety.

Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:

Need to have

You are a student in the current academic year
You must be attending a post-secondary institution full-time in the fall
You have a valid class 5 driver's license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick
You have a valid first aid certificate from a recognized provider on the first day of work
Spoken competence in English and French is required

Nice to have

General knowledge and experience in the outdoors, whether through camping, gardening, bird watching, academic interest, etc.
Ability to work collaboratively with others
Ability to interact with and present to a wide variety of audiences
Ability to connect with people, to understand a person's needs and adapt teaching methods to that person

What we provide

Parks NB will provide five (5) weeks of training to prepare you for the job. Parks NB will provide uniforms and weather appropriate attire for the job.

Certifications provided:

Wilderness First Aid
Project Wild Certification in outdoor education
Level 1 Parks & Wildlife Interpretation
Leave No Trace Canada Facilitator Training

Parks NB provides a per diem for meals in the field. Learn to Camp Ambassadors will be provided a government vehicle to cover transportation and gas card to cover fuel.
